So add marshmallow making to my list of things I am capable of! I love marshmallows. Peeps are my joy. No seriously, I was SO thrilled when they started making peeps for occasions other than Easter. Now I can enjoy peeps nearly year round!
So the other day I was looking at the blogs I often look at http://budgetbytes.blogspot.com/2010/12/peppermint-marshmallows-258-recipe-022.html She made peppermint marshmallows and of course, I went right out to get the things I needed to make it. Only Geletine, and corn syrup (mine expired in 06, apparently) Everything else, I had on hand.
After making I bragged around here and there, and heard a few people say they thought marshmallows were hard to make, or that they couldn't make them. I got nervous, but when I pulled mine from the pan, they were set! A bit softer than store bought but set none the less. Tasted good, really pepperminty. I can't wait to try different flavors! Bailey wants to do a "rocky road" he said, and I am TOTALLY game!
So I cut up my marshmallows and as the recipe states, I mixed corn starch, and powder sugar together and then sprinkled it over the yummy treats... Went to eat one and it tasted salty??? Yeah, the corn starch my husband bought is in a can... The exact same size can as my baking powder is in... Can you guess what I put on my marshmallows instead of cornstarch?
Cornstarch, good for marshmallows and butts ( lol bailey ) Baking powder, not so good for butts, OR marshmallows. Bummer.

So is there anything I cannot do? Apparently, I cannot read cans. Oh and I can also not eat the marshmallows. Baking powder and marshmallows do not mix. That was what I learned today.
